What I would ask the 2008 presidential candidates

Being an elected official is a lot like being a superhero: your main responsibility is to use your power to help less powerful people.  With that in mind, I would like to know: how do your positions on various issues actually help people?

  • How does your position on abortion help pregnant teenagers?
  • How does your position on the minimum wage help the poor?
  • How does your position on gay marriage help gay people?
  • How does your position on government-endorsed religion help atheists?
  • How does your position on the insurance industry help people with medical conditions who are unable to work?
  • How does your position on the Patriot Act help innocent people who have been wrongly suspected of terrorist activities?
  • How does your position on the credit industry help victims of credit fraud and identity theft?
  • How does your position on intellectual property rights help consumers exercise their fair use rights and enrich the public domain?
  • How will your position on predatory lending help more people afford homes?
  • How does your position on immigration help children whose parents are illegal immigrants?
  • How will your position on the environment clean up the air and water?
  • How will your position on FEMA and federal disaster response prevent another fiasco like hurricane Katrina?
  • How will your position on "the war on terrorism" help America to be liked more by other countries?
  • How will your position on NASA and space exploration help mankind to develop new technologies and understand the universe better?
  • How will your position on torture help Americans be respected and liked more by other countries?
